In amazing Barcelona we discover the beautiful old city and meet our host families with whom we spend six nights. Morning Spanish language sessions are held at a school qualified by the Cervantes institute that promotes the study of Spanish as a foreign language with small classes to accommodate students of all abilities. Afternoons are sometimes active and sometimes cultural.
active: a beach volleyball tournament at the beach with other students, kayaking on the mediterranean sea and banana boating.
cultural: from the Sagrada Familia, over the Picasso museum to the Gaudi park and the plenty of markets and streets of Barcelona..

The pace changes as we head to the cool of the Pyrenees Mountains to experience rafting. We backpack to a cozy mountain cabin and visit a national park with one of the highest concentrations of lakes throughout Europe.
We travel from the mountains back to Barcelona and then celebrate our achievements with a traditional dinner in the city before we say, “Hasta Luego.”

Itinerary

Day 1

You will be met upon arrival at the Barcelona Airport by your experienced BOLD EARTH expedition leaders. After traveling to the center of Barcelona we meet our host families at the school and after checking in we will spend the rest of the day with our group to get to know your future friends. During orientation we get to know each other and learn what to expect in the days ahead. Our daily routine, jobs and safety rules are explained, and the process of growing together as a group begins.

Days 3-6

After a language placement test the classes will start. Morning sessions are held at a school qualified by the Cervantes institute with classes to accommodate each level of Spanish. During two afternoons we visit several of cultural sites that Barcelona has to offer, such as the Gaudi park, Sagrada Familia and the Picasso Museum. During the other afternoons we are more active. We head about a half hour South from the city to explore the beautiful coast by kayak and we’ll spend some time banana boating. On another afternoon we will participate in a volleyball tournament organized by the school.

Days 7-11

The Parc National d’Aigues Tortes I de Sant Maurici in the Pyrenees Mountains is one of Spain’s oldest and most spectacular reserves, with one of the highest concentrations of lakes in Europe. A two-day backpack takes us from lake to lake in this magnificent setting. Here we spend one night in cozy mountain cabins. Our Spanish guide teaches us about the environment and animal life of the region, and urges us to speak Spanish as we hike. Next, white water rafting and our service project will be challenging activities full of fun and adrenaline!

Days 12-14

We close the circle by traveling back to Barcelona to spend one last day in this amazing city and explore the sites, streets and markets that we may have missed during or first week and say “hasta luego” to unforgettable Barcelona and Spain.
